Coolio, Dragon*Con! A hearty welcome to you, Jamie.

Profile Information

About Me:
I'm fairly new to the moderating game, but I've been active on several interest group forums throughout the past eight years or so.

Currently, I'm one of several moderators for the Stargate: Offworld Fandom Track at Dragon*Con. As we enter our fourth year as one of about 30 fan tracks for one of the biggest sci-fi/fantasy/costuming conventions in the southern U.S., we've gathered about 200-300 fans that attend mainly for Starfate fandom. Basically, I help organize ideas for events that are part of our track each Labor Day weekend.

Suggestions for new mods are always welcome!
Training/Experience/Places I've Worked:
I'm a high school teacher in real life, teaching a combination of mathematics and vocal music for almost 10 years.

Most of my forum experience has been related to hobbyist websites, from comics, to video games, to television shows, and sci-fi/fantasy costuming.

News in the Stargate Fan Universe!

Just an update here about the Stargate Metaverse Track @ Dragon*Con!

It's been an interesting week. Due to some staffing changes, I am now the Programming Team Supervisor for the Stargate Metaverse Track (we had a name change, too). That means that I have an official staff position now, and my main charge is managing the evolving content/team projects that make our track so great!

I'm still the project leader for Stargate: Interactive. For any fans out there, SGI this year is featuring the fan… Continue

Mathematics in Real Life: Teaching the Elements of Proof

For the past week or so at my normal job (teaching high school geometry), I've been trying to get students to recognize the real-world value of one of the most "dreaded" skills in the class: writing proofs about the congruence of triangles.

The problem with this subject is that very few people have a need to show that two triangles are congruent...ever. Honestly, it's not all that important for day-to-day living. However, a little creativity seems to make some difference.

Why learn proofs? Wel… Continue

About SG Interactive @ Dragon*Con

SG Interactive is basically a Stargate: Offworld original idea as a fandom track event. Basically, as a volunteer fan panelist, I was asked in Spring 2008 to host a screening of an episode of Stargate: SG-1 and come up with funny ways for the audience to be involved.

From that point, SGI became the brainchild of three main creators: Cali Boyd, a gal who goes by the moniker Wiccy (I know her name, but only use it on official documents), and myself. We worked for about four months on the project,… Continue
