Preamble - why I'm writing about this
Here she goes, writing about Twitter again. Sigh. But this time, it's important!
There seems to be a state of denial on the internet that Twitter has any safety implications for kids, which I…

Our friend Izzy Neis, posted this awesome video on her blog. It is a film of children's faces as they play computer games. What a range of emotions. About half way through, one girl has a single tear come down her face. Heartbreaking.
But what you mostly see is joy, fun and…

I love this. I am going to the Kids Online (un)Conference next week and my new theme is going to be the simplicity of found objects as the ultimate in entertainment. I guess we adults over think things. We certainly never did as children.
"And last but not least, one very unconventio…

So just arrived back yesterday from the Virtual World Conference in London and I am catching up on email and blog posts (translation: surfing Facebook and TMZ.com). I tried to update via Twitter mostly, but unfortunately we were stuck manning the booth and in meetings, so I was able to attend only one session in its entirety.
The session was the keynote by Linden Lab’s new CEO Mark Kingdon. I had actually been looking forward to that, as my husband works for LL and constantly gets an earful fro…

Today, Metaverse Mod Squad announced a strategic partnership with Parature, the global leader in on-demand customer service software. I think this partnership furthers discussions/debates within the online community profession about what role customer service plays in community management and vice versa.
Our job as community managers and moderators is to make the experiences in online communities safe, exciting, and fun. As brands continue to make these online communities the focal point of the…

Issues and Best Practices.
From the AOCM's own Joi Podgorny:
Spread the word! Really affordable conference for practical info and discourse on kids online. If you have never been to an un-conference, you really are missing out. Everyone participates - SO community-focused! Hope to see everyone! - Joi

I'll certainly be attending and I hope to see other AOCM members as well!

About 9 months ago, as a new company, we struggled to explain exactly what we do, how it makes sense, and the biggest problem of all - communicating that to a variety of audiences.

I was working on our “deck” and my husband started brainstorming on a whiteboard in our home office. He wrote “Virtual World Problems = Real World Problems”. Which of course seems simple, but for countless executives that have just acclimated themselves to navigating websites, it is a steep lesson. A mistake tha…
