Regulars Versus Noobies

When moderating, it's important to keep a balance between engaging with the regulars and helping new people. There's often a tension between regulars and noobs, and neither group can be ignored.

If there's teasing going on, I tell the regulars when enough is enough. And yes I have told them in open chat. I give them a "Hey, hey now: Remember just 2 months ago you were 7 feet tall and your forehead stuck out?" That usually gets them to back down, and we all laugh about it. It also helps that I was there when a lot of the regulars were "born," so I know how awkward they were just 2-3 short months ago.

BUT, at the same time. I am not their parent. Nor, their babysitter. And I treat them like adults. So when something perverted is said jokingly or insinuated ... I usually let it slide. By anyone, not just the regulars. You have to be very difficult to be banned by me. Because my goal is to get
everyone involved.

Now a few of those regulars do stuff on purpose, and they are just wanting attention drawn to them. Exactly why they choose to be in a birthing area. The best real life example of the regulars is when i worked in the mall, there were people who came there everyday for no reason. Just to hang out and we called them Mallrats. They would be loud and disruptive and would intentionally anger the old people who were around. But they were also busy things and genorated revenue, so we couldn't exactly make them go away. It's kinda the same thing. So you gotta remember keeping "regulars" regular pays the bills and is as important as helping noobs become "regulars." Just give it a few months, and you will have a whole new batch of snotty regulars!! LOL

Well Harp I couldn't agree more! Regulars are what makes our world go round and keeping the regulars engaged will keep them coming back for more....so this is why our regulars are so great and are always on...its like clock work for some, you know when they will log on and what time they have to log off. Noobs are so important and having our regulars in there with our noobs, gives the noobs a sense of security. It shows them that this is a place they all can hang out and have a family away from their rl family. Woot we got it going on in GG.
