Just an update here about the Stargate Metaverse Track @ Dragon*Con!

It's been an interesting week. Due to some staffing changes, I am now the Programming Team Supervisor for the Stargate Metaverse Track (we had a name change, too). That means that I have an official staff position now, and my main charge is managing the evolving content/team projects that make our track so great!

I'm still the project leader for Stargate: Interactive. For any fans out there, SGI this year is featuring the fan-favorite episode "1969" from SG-1 Season 2. Our writing staff is already hard at work, and we're developing preferences for meetings online. We're currently researching two possibilities, Skype and Gizmo. If any of you AOMC folks have recommendations/caveats about either program, or would like to suggest another, please feel free. We need a voice chat client that sustains solid quality for 5-10 users simultaneously.

That's all for now! And for any advice, my thanks in advance.

Right, Linden Lab is actually making a push to make Second Life a widespread enterprise solution. I'm skeptical of universal use any time soon because of the relatively steep learning curve, but with a sophisticated tech-savvy group (like our company's mods and your writers, no doubt), it can be pretty cool!

Michael:

I'm actually aware of the Stargate presence at Second Life -- another of our staffers plays around there a bit. That's an option I hadn't considered, as I've always considered it more of a game than anything serious...however, I do know of people who use it for such things.

Jamie, congrats on the promotion and name change! I for one use Skype and AIM but haven't tried Gizmo.

But if you're remote like our company is, you can't beat the richness of a meeting in the Second Life experience. It has a good voice chat client now, utilizing the positional 3D audio from Vivox. And there's already a Stargate presence (presumably unauthorized but still cool). Imagine your meetings here around the boardroom table. Good luck and keep us updated!
